Bay State Skating School

Bay State Skating School is a non-profit organization that teaches ice skating skills. The school has classes for children ages 4 through 18. Classes are held at 10 rinks in the Greater Boston area.

The school's approach to teaching ice skating involves small group instruction and supervised practice. Students are grouped by age and ability. The school has approximately 100 instructors who belong to various professional skating organizations.

The school was started by parents who wanted their children to learn ice skating. Rosemary Hanley Cloran and Carol Butterworth McKinnon, both former competitive skaters, began teaching ice skating classes. Over time, the school expanded to more locations and hired additional instructors.

The school offers classes in figure, hockey, and recreational skating. Students can wear sharpened skates, but no double runners are allowed. Helmets are mandatory for students ages 4-9 and recommended for all students.

Classes are available at various locations, including Waltham, Brookline, Cambridge, and Medford. The school has a registration page where students can sign up for classes. The school also has a FAQ page that answers common questions.
